Professional Wedding Photography

January 11th, 2012 No comments

The steady, ongoing work produced from wedding photography generates the majority of new clients for most photography studios and freelance photographers. A wedding photographer will need to comfortable with the following activities & skills:

Candid shots (photojournalistic) and posed shots

Making slides, prints, and slideshows (digital or otherwise)

Traditional albums

Taking shots in the outdoors at a party, beach, or rustic locale

Snapping shots indoors at a temple or church

In the late 1860’s in America, couples started hiring photographers and posing at the wedding. The art form of photography for the wedding was created by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826. However, the idea of live action shots and of capturing the event itself came up after the Second World War. Often, the photographers would just show up inconspicuously at a wedding, snap the photos, and venture to sell them later on to the family. This forced studios to start covering the events, lest they be booted out by freelance photographers.

After the wedding is over, a small time lapse is incurred, and, thereafter the photographer shows “proofs” to the couple. The proofs can be in the form of prints, thumbnail galleries, or all of the images on CD-ROM. They may also make separate galleries or slideshows, and they’re sometimes themed.

Photographers may sell additional prints to the couple through a web site with thumbnail galleries and an e-commerce back-end, often in conjunction with a vendor or broker website that charges a commission for each print purchase.

The common types of wedding photography include the photojournalistic realism and spontaneous photographer behavior of some, the classic or traditional posed method, and a hybrid of the two called fashion-based wedding photography.

In big cities, there are often studios devoted to wedding photography because photography for the wedding is such a mammoth market in metropolitan areas. People are always moving in and out and getting married. Take a look at a portfolio of the photographer’s former work for assurance.

The Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and, especially, the Wedding Photojournalists Association (WPA) offer training, professional support, and tips to member photographers.

Have your friends have told you how good your photography is? Are the prints you create appreciated by friends and family? Have they have suggested that you start your own wedding photography studio? If so, you may be asking what is your next step? Well, with a little help, you can get started in your very own business.

Wedding photography can provide you with an excellent income, either full or part time. Wedding photography has been the catalyst for many of the top professional photographers. Doing it for yourself of course, means that you get to keep all the money. But, please note that as the photographer, you will often be required to act as the wedding coordinator as well, as these days, most brides cannot afford one. And if there is no wedding coordinator, then it is usually the wedding photographer who will make sure everyone is where they should be most of the time. The downloadable course is designed to help you in all aspects of the days event. As the wedding photographer, you need to make sure that the bride and groom follow your directions. Make them aware that it is in their interest to follow your directions because they want a whole lot of great looking photos for their album.

As you prepare for an event, you need to make sure that all your equipment is ready, and that you have everything you need for the days event. If possible, be sure to have a series of back-ups, a spare camera body, a spare lens and a spare flash in case any of your prime units fails. You should always be prepared so that you never haver to come up to the bride during a wedding and try to explain that you equipment just broke and you cannot take any photos. Again, a death sentence. Your back-up units do not need to be identical to your prime units, but they should be at least close to the same specs. The camera needs to be able to take images at the same resolution as your prime camera, otherwise there will be a noticeable difference in quality of the final prints. The flash unit can be a smaller unit with a slightly lower light output, but if it happens, then this unit will have to do quite a bit of work, so be careful. Make sure that the spare flash is fully charged before taking photos. I have seen a number of photographers get excited about taking some pictures at an event, and they will often just fire away, taking picture after picture, not realizing that the flash is not fully charged for each picture, and so, most of the resulting images will have serious problems, that may not be able to be recovered on the computer. So, make sure that you have good back-up equipment.

Let me ask you, are you ready to take the next step? If you love photography and working with people, the let me ask you if you are ready to start your own wedding photography business? Then you will find that the wedding photography course is designed to get you off to a great start. Everything is in this course, including all the forms you will need. Business forms are provided for you as a computer file that you can edit and personalize to give them your very own identity. This alone will help you and your business look very professional and save you a lot of time and money, so you can get bookings and start making some money with your very own wedding photography business.

Find Out the Latest Trend in Wedding Photography

October 10th, 2011 No comments

The newest trend in wedding photography is online photography galleries of your wedding.  The reason these photography galleries are becoming so popular is because of the simplicity of them.  Never heard of an online photography gallery for your wedding?  It works like this: after your wedding, your photographer will give you a website to go to with a password and login name.  You will be able to access all of your wedding photos on this website.  You will then be able to hand out the login and password on your wedding photography gallery to all your friends and family, so they can pick the photos they want.  This takes the work of the bride to a minimum.  All she needs to do is send out a link to the photography gallery for her wedding with the sign in information in a bulk email and her work is done.  All she has to do is choose photos for her album and individual pictures she wants.

Often in wedding photography galleries, the order information will be listed somewhere on the site and orders can be taken right online, without having to stress the newlyweds over how much what size photo costs and how to order it.  It’s a great way for friends and family to get the photos they want in a timely manner.  Keep in mind, though, that most of these photography galleries are only online for a limited time, so make sure your photographer is willing to give you a disc or hard proofs of your photos after that time or you may lose them.

While there are plenty of pros to choosing photography galleries for your wedding, there can be many cons as well.  Many people like to have their proofs to look at.  Often, people feel that a proof serves as a better representation of how the photo will actually look when you receive it.  Having proofs in a photography gallery is an efficient way to utilize easy access and convenience, but it also misleads some people as to how the photos will actually look.  Since most photographers work with digital cameras, however, it’s usually a pretty good chance that the photos will be sharp and crisp.

Another type of photography gallery that is commonly being used in weddings now is a running slideshow, or photo montage of the couple in all stages of life.  Usually, the photo gallery will be put to music and it is the DJ’s responsibility to put those together.  These types of photo galleries can be a lot of fun for the guests and are usually shown just before dinner is served.

While the timing of your photo gallery or photo montage is up to you, these can offer a valuable insight into what type of families you and your new spouse have, what your interests are and how you two are as a couple.  Do you travel?  Have you been to some really fun, fabulous events that you want all your wedding guests to know about?  Then a photography gallery for your wedding is the way to go.

You can put it against all kinds of music, but try to choose your favorite songs, as well as some music that most of your guests will enjoy, as well.
