Nokia 7390: Highly Stylized 3G Technology

December 4th, 2011 No comments

A bundle of ‘top of the line’ features in a highly fashionable outfit – thats Nokia 7390 in one line. Owing to its relation with the highly fashionable L’Amour collection, the Nokia 7390 is an eye-candy. The clamshell sports the iconic curves and design elements that separates the ethnic and traditionally inclined L’Amour handset from the clutter of the ‘futuristic’ designs.

The external TFT screen with 262k vibrant colours is one of the best in business but do not compare well with the brilliant 16 million colour deliverable, primary QVGA display. Its weight of 115 gm and smaller dimension makes it very easy to carry in any pocket. The Nokia 7390 is available in two colour solutions – bronze black and powder pink, each has a distinct personality of its own.

One of the compelling feature of the Nokia 7390 is its 3.0 megapixel camera. The high resolution camera module is well complimented by digital zoom, flash and most importantly, autofocus. These features goes a long way in capturing any moments of your life with actual colours and great details, irrespective of unfavorable shooting environments. Just like any other cameras, video recording is supported too, but in higher resolution.

The Nokia 7390 has a secondary VGA camera module for video calling. The 3G technology of the Nokia 7390 allows it to make video calls across WCDMA networks. High speed mobile Internet is also possible within 3G network with the Nokia 7390. You can also opt for a ‘slower’ speed of around 236 kbps with EDGE and GPRS in case 3G connectivity is absent.

Audio file formats like MP3, AAC, eAAC+, M4A and videos in 3GPP, H.263 and MPEG4 formats coul be played on the integrated media player of the Nokia 7390 . You can also stream in Videos with its high data transfer speeds. Other than available internal memory of about 21 Mb, up to 2GB of external memory card is supported.

Nokia N96 – Successor of a Successful Phone

November 7th, 2011 No comments

The Nokia N96 as everyone knows is the successor of the most successful Nokia mobile phones ever the N95. Being a descendent of a great phone there was a large amount of expectation from the Nokia N96. Unfortunately the Nokia N96 couldn’t keep up the glory of its predecessor.

The time when Nokia Mobile Phones released Nokia N95, it was the giant in the market, and there wasn’t any potential threat to Nokia N95 in design, features or performance but now the things are totally different. The N96 uses Dual ARM 9 264 MHZ CPU which is a slower than that of N95’s CPU. There doesn’t seem to be any valid reason for this downgrade, though on second thoughts it looks like it was done to improve battery life but the battery life is worse than that of N95. No to worry too much the mediocre battery and the CPU don’t affect the performance of the phone. The user interface is very smooth, quick and just maybe some very demanding application or game can show the difference between the performance of the two mobile phones.

The design of N96 has been inherited from the Nokia N81 and is very attractive; the build quality however is not up to the standard of a high end mobile phone. The cheaper plastic employed in Nokia N96 is susceptible to scratches.

The form factor of N96 is dual slide i.e. you can move the top slider either way up and down; pushing the panel upwards will reveal the numeric keypad and pushing it down will reveal the 4 dedicated keys used for music and games.

As far as memory is concerned the Nokia N96 is excellent. It has a large internal memory of 16GB and provides room for further expansion using a micro SD memory card. In short, you can extend the memory of N96 to 32GB. The 2.8 inches screen of N96 is marvellous; It is brilliant even under direct sunlight, no complaints from display section too.

The inbuilt 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens camera complemented by powerful dual LED flash captures superb pictures producing a far better quality than the pictures taken by other phones boasting a 5 mega pixel camera. The pictures are excellent in all lighting conditions, this camera can capture even moving objects with great precession. However, the capture button can be difficult to press but it isn’t a major problem.

The Nokia N96 Mobile comes with a good DVB – H tuner, enabling it to receive digital TV broadcasts. Moving on to one of the main entertainment functions of the Nokia N96 – the mp3 play, which does not disappoint with excellent all around sound quality. The loud speakers are placed on the right side, top and bottom of the phone. In landscape mode you can use the kickstand to place the phone on the desk at the best angle for watching TV / video. The loudspeakers will now be on the top left and right of the phone giving a feel of mini television, looks very attractive.

The N96 wasn’t really intended to take the market by storm and turn the world around. Maybe it was meant to quietly update the top multimedia gadget of the house. Almost every phone manufacturer has a good range of mobiles that can challenge Nokia N96 and most of them have Touchscreen, mp3 players and video playback functions. Nokia is not yet concentrating on Touchscreen which is the latest trend in mobile world. Moreover Nokia N96 has a heavy price tag compared to other mobiles with similar functionalities however the Nokia N96 has a great software package that comes in an utterly user-unfriendly shell.

Nokia N73- N-series Top Achievement

November 4th, 2011 No comments

Nokia unveiled the latest addition to the Nokia Nseries family, the Nokia N73, a stunning multimedia computer in a compact and savvy exterior with exquisite photography features and integrated stereo speakers with 3D sound for optimized audio pleasure. In addition to a large 2.4 inch display, the Nokia N73 includes a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and support for Internet communities like Flickr – a package ready to challenge any digital camera.

The Nokia N73 meets a multitude of the everyday user’s needs – in one pocketable device. Available in 3G or quadband EDGE/GSM networks, the Nokia N73 has all the diversity of a powerful multimedia computer enabled with the S60 3rd Edition Software on Symbian OS. Music fans can tap into the Nokia N73’s integrated digital music player with playlists and equalizer or tune into the FM radio, or simply enjoy productivity features like email, office applications, organizer, synchronization with a compatible PC and browse the Internet with the Nokia Web Browser with Mini Map. See who you are calling and who calls you with the front VGA camera, enabled for video calling*.

The Nokia N73 can be considered to be a substantially upgraded version of the Nokia N70, and it can be considered as a direct competitor to the Sony Ericsson K790i and K800i handsets. Most people will see the N73 as 3G phone with tri-band GSM, although we understand that there will be a quad-band GSM version with EDGE available for some markets too.

There’s a large 2.4″ 240×320 pixel display, a 3.2 megapixel main camera with Carl Zeiss optics (and the 3G version will have a secondary video calling camera). The Nokia N73 also has stereo speakers, an FM radio, Bluetooth and expandable memory using miniSD cards (to supplement the 42Mb of internal memory supplied as standard.

On the downside, the N73 doesn’t appear to support stereo Bluetooth and the keypad appears to have a similar cramped layout to the N70. Overall though, this is a very promising looking handset that is one of the best specified mainstream handsets we’ve seen to date, and it will probably be the biggest seller in the new Nseries range.

With the Nseries Nokia are keen to stress that they have ‘taken technical products and made them easier to use’. No where is this better exemplified than in the N73 which is an extremely capable multimedia device. Integration with Flickr, Lifeblog 2.0, improved music functions, and a new user friendly camera UI all add up to a user experience that is designed with ease of use in mind.

Sony Ericsson Z610i: 3G in a Stylish Way

October 28th, 2011 4 comments

Leaving behind the ‘serious’ looks rampant with today’s 3G smartphones, Sony Ericsson have came up with a petite looking clamshell that is fully packed with 3G mobile technology. The Sony Ericsson Z610i have set new standard in mobile phone design. The smooth glossy texture of the handset has a nice feel to it. The external OLED monochrome display is cleverly hidden by mirror effect and does not give away its presence till you receive a call or text.

Internal screen of the Sony Ericsson Z610i is 176 x 220 pixel, TFT that delivers more than 262k accurate and vibrant colours. The display is the perfect viewfinder for the primary camera and also produces high definition images while on video calls. The keys are well differentiated so number of wrong presses can be kept to a bare minimum.

The Sony Ericsson Z610i is endowed with a 2.0 megapixel camera. A secondary VGA camera is located on the top of the primary display so that you can make video calls across UMTS networks. The camera includes basic features like digital zoom and video recording but lacks flash and auto-focus. However, there are many fun features like Picture Blogging, clubbed with the integrated camera to keep you engrossed.

Other than UMTS, the Sony Ericsson Z610i supports triband GSM mobile network and automatically changes band. This makes the handset functional across five continents. Enjoy download speed of broadband through 3G network other than GPRS. Easy surfing through the built in NetFront browser of the Sony Ericsson Z610i makes it easier to search and download all your favourite contents directly to the device. The phone’s internal memory is about 16 Mb and it supports external memory cards. Bluetooth and USB connectivity of the device is ideal for quick exchange and synchronization of information.

The Sony Ericsson Z610i is surely a novel way to say hello to 3G.

There are a lot of ‘firsts’ for the company in the Sony Ericsson W850i. For starters, it is the first slider for its manufacturers, first 3G Walkman phone, first Walkman phone to feature an upgraded Walkman Player v2.0 which is included in W950i released at a later date. Being a flagship product, the company paid enough attention to details which is evident from the first look at the Sony Ericsson W850i. Available in two colours, the Sony Ericsson W850i has distinct images for both the colour solution. The while model sports a 24 karat gold logo and is directed at the fairer sex. At 116 gm the Sony Ericsson W850i is very light considering its 3G capabilities. Despite being the first slider from Sony Ericsson, they’ve managed to pull it off without any glitches. Older and popular features like MegaBass, Equalizer are not left behind. 16 Mb of internal memory seems paltry for a music phone but the problem is taken care of by the 1GB memory card shipped with the handset.

The Sony Ericsson W850i also features two camera module. The first is a 2.0 mega pixel camera with digital zoom and flash for capturing images or videos.
